Wintersession Registration

Offering a unique chance to explore new disciplines, techniques, topics and travel opportunities—Wintersession can enrich your educational experience at RISD.
Registration requirements
All first-year students, undergraduate Architecture majors, and graduate students must enroll in Wintersession. Wintersession enrollment is otherwise optional.
All students can register for a maximum of three credits during Wintersession. You can review the full Wintersession registration policy on Coursedog through the link below.
Wintersession travel courses
Led by RISD faculty, wintersession travel courses are rich, short-term learning experiences that take place in other US regions or outside the country. These courses run for up to five weeks between the fall and spring semester. Learn how to apply below. (Note that all steps are required, including the faculty-led information session.)

Attend the instructor’s information session (required)
You are required to attend the information session about the travel course you would like to sign up for. In this session, the instructor provides information about the goals and objectives of the travel course. These sessions take place between September 20 and October 2, and are available to all students interested in registering.
In some instances, a direct meeting with the instructor of the course may be an alternative to session attendance. Feel free to contact the instructor directly for more information.

Apply for a Wintersession travel course
You may only apply for one Wintersession travel course. The application opens on September 19 through RISD Global. Faculty instructors review your application and make the decision on whether or not you are approved to register.

Travel course registration
If you are approved for the travel course, you will be sent an email with registration and payment information in October. You will also be contacted if you are on a waitlist, and if space becomes available you will have 48 hours after being notified to register and submit payment to save your spot.

Submit payment
